Meet Our Newest Board Members

Thank you to those who voted within our 2020-2021 Executive Board Elections! Below we are introducing our newest officers for the 2020-2021 Executive Board who will begin their duties on July 1st, 2020. 

President: Kelly Wentz, Gonzaga University

Kelly Wentz

Kelly Wentz is an Assistant Director of Financial Aid at Gonzaga University, assisting students in achieving their educational goals. As part of her program responsibilities, Kelly manages on-campus student employment, managing over 225 supervisors and hiring over 1500 students each academic year. She enjoys communicating with students the benefits of working while in school and assisting them in being work-force ready after their time in college. Kelly currently serves on the board for the National Student Employment Association (NSEA) as VP of Administrative Services and is a certified SEE Trainer for NSEA. She holds membership with NSEA, WASEA, WASFAA, NACE, and NASFAA. She earned her Master’s in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga University in 2016 and her Bachelor of Arts in English from Northwest Nazarene University in 2001. Kelly is grateful to be a member of WASEA, as it was through WASEA that she was able to learn and collaborate with many fellow student employment professionals and gather the knowledge-base that she applies to her on campus student employment!

President-Elect: Shelby Bowman, Pepperdine University

 

Shelby Bowman
Shelby Bowman currently serves as the Director of Student Employment at Pepperdine University located in Malibu, California. Shelby oversees a team of three who manage all aspects of on-campus student employment, including over 1,800 student employees in 250+ departments. She truly enjoys connecting with students and supervisors on a daily basis and ensuring a positive student employment experience on-campus.  Shelby has worked in the field of Student Employment for three years and has been a member of WASEA for the same amount of time. She also currently serves on WASEA’s Board as the Vice President for Marketing and Membership. Her background is in Career Counseling and she truly enjoys assisting students with finding employment opportunities that promote career development, skill acquisition, and personal/professional development. Shelby earned her Master’s in Counseling and College Student Personnel from California Lutheran University in 2018 and completed thesis work on Student Employment and the impact it has on low-income and first-generation college students. She also obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from California Lutheran University in 2015. In her free time, you will find Shelby hiking with her chocolate lab, trying out a new carb-based recipe in her kitchen, reading the next Goal Setting book, and spending time with close friends and family.

Secretary: Aurie Clifford, Pima Community College

 

Aurie Clifford
Aurie has been an employee of Pima Community College in Tucson, Arizona for the past 12 years.  Currently, she is the Assistant Director of Title IV Compliance in the Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships. This position entails she oversees all the Title IV programs including, but not limited to, the Federal Work Study program.  As a lifelong learner, Aurie is interested in higher education and has earned four degrees in her career, the first one being an Associate's Degree in legal assisting where she learned she has a love of interpreting the law and creating policies and procedures.  She then pursued an Associate's Degree  and Bachelor of Science in Business Management, and finally a Master's Degree in Education. During her career, she has worked in various Human Resources roles and Financial Aid roles.  She loves to volunteer in state, regional and national associations in both the financial aid and Human Resources arenas.  Teaching, learning and presenting are a passion for Aurie.
